This Week’s Tastiest Morsel
Transformers: 25th Anniversary Matrix Of Leadership Edition [The Complete Series]
Sixteen discs of Robot rocking action including all of the generation 1 episodes with five new features including a reunion of many of the voice actors, original PSAs and toy commercials and concept art. This is the complete set I have been expecting them to release for some time, which is why I warned against getting the individual sets. If you only make one Transformers related purchase this week this is it.
Fresh Catches
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (Two-Disc Special Edition)
The movie did not enjoy good reviews when it was released this summer, but I will praise them for making a solid DVD for their fans. If you get the 2-Disc edition it is loaded with features that cover the entire film creation process from pre-production to its release. Even if you don’t love the story it is fascinating to see them construct the effects for the big action set pieces.
Imagine That
Eddie Murphy made another kids movie that no one saw and only on Blu-ray for now (The DVD is due towards the end of November).
Blood: The Last Vampire
A live action adaptation of the popular anime series about a schoolgirl who is half human and half vampire (ahem Blade) who is here to protect humans from the invasion of vampires (ahem Blade) with a samurai sword (ahem oh forget it). The movie is supposed to have good action so those of you who love the original series or who love Blade check it out.
Saturday Night Live: The Best of Amy Poehler
Now that she was pulled away from the show to lead her own sitcom Parks and Recreation it was only a matter or time until we got this set. I would imagine it will include her Palin rap and a few of her sketches with Tina Fey as Hillary Clinton to cash in on the Emmy nomination hype. I hope for at least one appearance of the Dakota Fanning show.
It’s Garry Shandling’s Show: The Complete Series
This innovative sitcom is considered by some to be the father of Seinfeld, citing its unconventional style and the fact that many of the writers went on to work on Seinfeld. The show lasted four seasons on Showtime which are all included here and the set boasts six new featurettes and eighteen commentary tracks.
Numbers: The Complete Fifth Season
Another show breaks the 100 episode mark which means that shows that started five years ago are doing really well. In case you haven’t been watching this is a procedural where they solve crimes with math.
Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: The Complete Series Megaset
Buy your mother her Christmas gift early.
The L Word: Complete Series Pack
Also today there is the last season and a Seasons 1-5 set available for the popular Showtime drama. The complete set does not include new features.
Greg Giraldo: Midlife Vices
Made famous with his many appearances on Comedy Central programming including various Roasts, Colin Quinn’s Tough Crowd, and Lewis Black’s Root of All Evil, you can now own his first DVD comedy special.
Double Dip DVDs
Planes, Trains and Automobiles (Those Aren’t Pillows Edition)
This DVD is being served up in honor of the recently deceased John Hughes, and also includes a memoriam for John Candy. It has a few other new features including a making of, and a long deleted scene.
Fawlty Towers: The Complete Collection Remastered
This week we get two classic British shows remastered and with some reasonable price points given their rabid following. This set has a few new features to upgrade the version released a few years ago including interviews and director commentaries.
Black Adder Remastered: The Ultimate Edition
The whole series is here with new features like commentaries and a sixty minute documentary for the 25th anniversary. This is a great collection, and the features are top notch.
