Alright, this is not so much a Pitch Session so you can swap out the “P” if you want because today I am calling Quentin Tarantino out for not delivering the Kill Bill DVD he had been promising all through the promotional tours for the films. It even has an Amazon page which has been abandoned. Instead, we get two barebones DVDs with a crappy cardboard case to combine them if we pre-ordered through Best Buy. So today I will combine the things Quentin promoted that we know exist with a few features that are likely and some I would like to see.
What we know should be on an eventual DVD:
1. A seven minute animation scene already filmed to add to the O-Ren portion of the film.
2. Alternate Scenes with more violence/gore which was edited down for the Theatrical release.
3. Other Alternate/Deleted Scenes
4. A short musical intermission between the chapters
What we can guess based on his usual DVD editions (Jackie Brown, Reservoir Dogs, etc)
1. TV Spots
2. National and International Trailers
3. Deleted Scenes
4. Any Charlie Rose or Roger Ebert coverage
What I want to see added
1. Tarantino has done a few guest Commentaries (Spaced) so I am hoping he got the bug and makes one for Kill Bill. He could probably record it on his own, but I wouldn’t mind him having Uma Thurman or his buddy Robert Rodriguez along for the ride.
2. A feature where QT talks about the classic Martial Arts films that inspired the film similar to the feature included on the Reservoir Dogs DVD.
3. A tribute to David Carradine whose recent death will make the feature more valuable.
4. A tribute to the legendary Sonny Chiba who played Hattori Hanzo, the Katana sword maker in Kill Bill.
I think this DVD will come in the next few years and, hopefully with Quentin’s upcoming Inglorious Basterds and David Carradine’s mysterious death, the demand will rise up enough that they want to cash in.
