DVDs With Dean – Release Date May 5th

Pick of the Week
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Two-Disc Criterion Edition)
A new movie being released by Criterion that isn’t made by Wes Anderson (The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou) must be something special so here is my homerun Pick of the Week. The Two Discs are chock full of goodies including a four part documentary detailing the whole enterprise from casting Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchette to the premier. Best of all David Fincher (Fight Club) gives us an Audio Commentary, which is worth 20 bucks on its own.

Last Chance Harvey
I have a weakness for Dustin Hoffman ever since Hook so even though this fifty-something romance isn’t made with me in mind, I still look forward to checking it out.

Incendiary
I couldn’t find a good review of this film which follows several characters in the aftermath of a terrorist bombing of a Soccer Match. You would imagine something drew Ewan McGregor and Michelle Williams to the film, but it seemed to drive viewers away.

The Last Templar
A weak TV adventure film in the vein of The Da Vinci Code starring Mira Sorvino (Mighty Aphrodite) and Scott Foley (The Unit).

Ralphie May: Austin-tatious
Since his time on Last Comic Standing, Ralphie May has released a slew of DVD performances (Prime Cut, Girth of a Nation, Just Correct) and this is his latest.

TV and Reissues
Twilight (Ultimate Collector’s Set) [Blu-ray]
Very similar to the last special edition but this one comes with various baubles like a Charm Bracelet, Watch, and a Numbered Jewelry Box.

Doctor Who: The E-Space Trilogy
Another collection from the BBC cult hit, it seems like it might get expensive to be a fan of this show, although I guess it is nice they are giving this much attention to the classic series for their fans sake.

Enchanted April
Miramax releases the Critical darling Enchanted April with an upgraded case and a Commentary from Mike Newell and Ann Scott.

Boston Legal: Season Five
The courtroom comedy comes to a close and this short thirteen episode season marks the end. The features are a little light since it is the final season, but the other DVD sets were light on features as well.

Gene Roddenberry’s Earth: Final Conflict – Season 1
It seems a lot of shows (Andromeda included) were created based on Gene Roddenberry’s notes after his death and I wonder if even he would like them. This often troubled show that couldn’t keep any steady cast members does have some dedicated fans and now they get their DVD edition. However, if it sells poorly don’t be surprised if they don’t get around to all five seasons.

Crusoe: The Complete Series
This thirteen episode mini-series that NBC wanted to make a series gets its DVD release. At least it ends with a proper finale.

Mythbusters: Collection 4 (Includes the Moon Landing Episode)
Another collection of the Discovery Channel hit and now the price of the sets have come down to a really reasonable level. This set has a bunch of solid episodes including the one where they test the conspiracy theories surrounding the Moon Landing.
