This September will be filled with drama and intrigue as the BBC releases the thrilling miniseries, The Hour, onto DVD and Blu-ray. Premiering on BBC AMERICA on August 17, Dominic West (The Wire, The Devil’s Whore), Romola Garai (One Day, Emma, Atonement) and Ben Whishaw (Bright Star, Brideshead Revisited) lead an all-star cast on The Hour, an intriguing, sexy and original, edge-of-your-seat spy thriller set in the world of television journalism in 1956. Arriving at retail on September 27 – less than one week after concluding on BBC AMERICA – the two-disc DVD and Blu-ray sets include two featurettes: a behind-the-scenes look at the miniseries and a making of special.
Also this month, the BBC is bringing to DVD Diana Rigg at the BBC — a quintessential collection of performances by the BAFTA and Emmy-winning actress, Dame Diana Rigg. Boasting over thirteen hours of content, the 5-disc box set features her most memorable and adored BBC television performances including her feisty portrayal of Ms. Adela Bradley in the Mrs. Bradley Mysteries. This unique anthology also includes her work with other screen icons in rare televised plays such as Henrik Ibsen’s Little Eyolf, where she is joined by Anthony Hopkins, Peggy Ashcroft and Charles Dance, and Stanley Price’s Genghis Cohn, which costars Daniel Craig. Additionally, Diana Rigg at the BBC contains a newly recorded interview with Diana Rigg, as well as her classic appearance on the hit BBC comedy series, Morecambe & Wise.
Also available this September are three new Gavin & Stacey box sets – Gavin & Stacey: Season Two, Gavin & Stacey: The Christmas Special and Season Three, and Gavin & Stacey: The Complete Collection. Staring Gavin (Mathew Horne, The Catherine Tate Show) and Stacey (Joanna Page, Love Actually) these newest installments of the BAFTA Award-winning romantic comedy follow the trials and tribulations for two newlyweds as they embark on a whirlwind romance that brings their nations and families crashing together. The BBC is also bringing together the entire series for the first time with the same-day release of Gavin & Stacey: The Complete Collection. Each set is packed with special features including outtakes, featurretes and much more.
Other notable titles arriving in stores from the BBC include two British crime-fighting series on DVD: Dalziel & Pascoe: Season Four and Judge John Deed: Season Four; a historical documentary of the world’s first color photographs on film, The Wonderful World of Albert Kahn; and the classic Doctor Who release, Doctor Who: Day of the Daleks.
