This Week’s Tastiest Morsel
Drag Me to Hell
They went light on features, but each DVD comes with a Rated and Unrated cut of the film and 30 minutes of Behind the Scenes footage. However, if you get the Blu-ray you get a digital copy. I hope Sam Raimi continues to make horror films every few years.
Fresh Catches
Land of the Lost
The Will Ferrell led comedy dud may have new life on DVD as expectations dwindle. They made a few silly featurettes for anyone who is looking forward to purchasing the DVD.
The Proposal
The Sandra Bullock rom-com has a blooper reel, alternate ending, and Writer and Director commentary and comes with a Digital copy if you choose the 2 Disc DVD or the Blu-ray.
The Haunted Airman
Twilight’s Robert Pattinson stars in this dud which was released to no one in 2006 but is being re-issued now that he is a teen heartthrob. They even make his face on the front look like his vampire doppelganger.
Futurama: The Complete Collection
Only 25,000 sets will be made of the complete series set with the Bender Head which contains 19 discs of Futurama including all of the seasons and the 4 DVD movies. The set does not contain any new content.
Legend of the Seeker: The Complete First Season
This show is very similar in style to Hercules and Xena which makes sense since Sam Raimi helped develop them all, however the fight sequences are a little better now with tricky camera work and increased special effects. However, it is often campy and ridiculous which may or may not ruin it for you.
Flashpoint – The First Season
This Canadian TV show about an elite police unit has a weird season breakdown with 22 episodes being split in half as the first 2 seasons. So this is the first half of the initial 22. This may not be interesting to anyone but me, but Amy Jo Johnson is featured in this show and I remember her as the pink Power Ranger from my youth. Glad to see she was able to escape that show with a career.
The Mighty Boosh Special Edition DVD (Seasons 1-3)
The Mighty Boosh is a British Comedy troupe who had a BBC series for 3 seasons which adds up to 20 episodes. This set unites the 3 seasons; especially since us Americans expect more than 5 episodes per set.
Nick Swardson: Seriously, Who Farted?
I keep waiting for Nick Swardson’s star to rise given his talent and A-list friends like David Spade. Now he has a comedy special and I imagine he will get a solid acting role in a TV show or movie in the next year.
Jim Jefferies: I Swear to God
This Aussie comedian is gaining in popularity and he is releasing his first US comedy special to follow up the UK released Contraband from 2008.
Double-Dip DVDs
The Stepfather
Perhaps you can tell me why they re-issued the sequel before the original?
Natural Born Killers (Director’s Cut)
This edition has a new featurette and finally includes the deleted scenes which involve some big names like Denis Leary, Ashley Judd, and Rachel Ticotin.
