DVDs With Dean – Release Date June 2nd

This week we are reminded that killing Nazis is awesome and the ladies get some attention to make up for the post Valentine’s Day lull.

Pick of the Week
Defiance
Daniel Craig (Quantum of Solace) leads a group of riled up Jews on guerilla style attacks of Nazi troops during World War II. Killing Nazis never gets old and this tale is actually based on real events. Thankfully, we get a feature on the real conflict as well as a proper chronicling of the making of this action thriller. Joe takes a look at this DVD here.

He’s Just Not That Into You
This mother-lode of chick flick powers includes Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Connelly, Ginnifer Goodwin, Ben Affleck, and Bradley Cooper. Hopefully, the quantity denotes quality because they crapped out a bare bones DVD, although the Blu-ray has a few features and a Digital copy. It looks like some DVD manufacturers think that women don’t care for special features, and I wonder if there is any truth to that.

Revolutionary Road
Kate Winslet and Leonardo Dicaprio re-unite to recapture the chemistry from the Titanic. However, don’t expect a love fest reunion as this film is a dramatic exploration of a relationship coming off the rails set in the 1950’s.

Spring Breakdown
A female Road Trip featuring Amy Poehler (Baby Mama), Rachel Dratch, Amber Tamblyn, and Parker Posey (A Mighty Wind) as a bunch of geeky 30 somethings try to blend in at a college spring break destination.

Baby On Board
Take The Break-Up and add a baby and you get this unromantic comedy starring Heather Graham and Jerry O’Connell.

TV and Re-Issues
The Hunger: The Complete First Season
Showtime launched this semi-erotic Horror Anthology back in 1997 with Terence Stamp as the host who would introduce a short horror film from notable directors like Tony Scott and a few up and coming actors like Lena Headey (300) and Daniel Craig.

Raising the Bar: The Complete First Season
Stephen Bochco (Creator of NYPD Blue and L.A. Law) returns to TV to head up this legal drama featuring Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Saved By The Bell) and Jane Kaczmarek (Malcolm In The Middle). I was most excited to see J. August Richards from the TV show Angel back in action, but I may be in the minority.

Eddie Murphy: Delirious – 25th Anniversary
Eddie Murphy’s best standup DVD gets a spit shine, and even now 26 years after its release it holds up nicely. It is also a brutal reminder about how talented he used to be.

Weeds – Season 4
This TV set actually has a lot of special features which is uncommon in TV DVDs, so I encourage you to support Showtime’s hilarious suburban drug-dealing comedy featuring the magnificent Mary-Louise Parker and Kevin Nealon in time for the upcoming fifth season.

Prison Break: Season 4
I never thought this TV movie premise would last this long and so now you can buy the final season as they gear up to make a TV movie…which is kind of ironic.
