Diminishing ratings and the continual struggle to keep the story of a prison escape fresh has forced Fox to conclude Prison Break after four seasons. I always thought the concept was better suited for a TV movie, but they were able to keep the concept tied to an interesting conspiracy and some compelling characters. Now that the show is closed they are investigating ways to keep the franchise alive. The show will have a two-hour TV movie to further flesh out the ending which included a stunning conclusion. There has also been talk of a spin-off franchise in the vein of the many Law & Order shows, which would likely center on a female protagonist escaping from a women’s prison. While they work these things out fans of the show can at least delight in the fact that Fox allowed the producers to wrap up the show to their and my liking, which is not always in their MO. If you were a fan of the series up to this point you should be pleased with this last season, and the features make it a worthy addition to your collection.

Amazingly, this DVD set comes in a standard single DVD case with a set of swinging slides to hold the DVDs. As someone who has a ton of shelf space eaten up by large TV collections, it is nice to see some hope of smaller cases coming in the future. However, the downside is that this will not match the previous seasons for those who are likely collecting them all.
