Pick of the Week
X-Men The Animated Series, Volume 1
X-Men The Animated Series, Volume 2
The long wait is over and we finally get the classic X-Men Animated series on DVD. The show has an odd season break down so we get two volumes to start things off but it includes several hot episode arcs including “Days of Future Past”, “The Phoenix Saga”, and “Night of the Sentinels”. Sadly, the trend of skipping special features for classic animated shows (Exosquad) continues.
The Uninvited
Elizabeth Banks stars in this Evil Stepmother thriller, check out my review for more details.
Bride Wars
All the special features are on Blu-Ray, except the shameless Vera Wang plug featurette. I wasn’t very excited by the movie and now I am insulted with the DVD release.
JCVD
I saw this wild Jean Claude Van Damme movie used in a Blockbuster recently so this film must have been released earlier for the Media giant. Now the rest of us can see this crazy thriller about the action star who loses a part to Steven Seagal and returns to Brussels in desperation only to get caught in a bank heist. I am thrilled to hear critical praise for the film and I can’t wait to see it.
Hotel for Dogs
The family film from Nickelodeon/Dreamworks starring Emma Roberts and a plethora of dogs gets released with plenty of featurettes on the canine stars. If your kids love dogs or animals in general I would consider this a safe bet.
What Doesn’t Kill You
Donnie Wahlberg wrote this crime drama with Brian Goodman who also directed the stars Ethan Hawke, Mark Ruffalo, and Amanda Peet. I heard it was a clever drama and with that cast I intend to rent it in the next few weeks.
Martyrs
The word is that Martyrs is a French entry into the Torture Porn genre. So if you like heavy gore and viscera this is the film for you.
While She Was Out
Kim Basinger is an embattled homemaker who pisses off some thugs and has to run for her life to survive. This might be awful, but it also might be awful enough to be fun to watch.
Stranded
The documentary recounting the story of the Rugby team that was forced to eat the flesh of the dead (remember Alive?) has gotten a lot of critical buzz. I have a hard time squeezing in documentaries but I loved Alive and I am really curious about the real story.
One-Eyed Monster
A joke horror movie starring Ron Jeremy and Amber Benson (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) about a monster that possesses a particular body part on a secluded Porn set and goes on a rampage. It is probably ridiculous and inappropriate. but I imagine some of you want just that kind of thing.
TV and Re-Issues
Jetsons: The Movie
This is movie that was released in theaters in 1990 and not one of the TV films made in the late 80’s. I expected this to come later since Robert Rodriguez is supposed to be releasing a Live-Action film in 2012, although I guess we could get another release closer to that time as well that actually has features.
Nicholas Sparks Film Collection (Nights in Rodanthe / The Notebook / Message in a Bottle / A Walk to Remember)
Where was this for Valentine’s Day? Maybe if a guy out there screwed up and is in the doghouse this could get him off the couch instead.
Spin City: The Complete Second Season
While he is making waves guest appearing on Rescue Me, Michael J. Fox should be remembered for his great comic turn on Spin City which is starting to catch up on DVD.
Star Trek: The Original Series – Season 1 [Blu-ray]
Just in time for the relaunch in theaters you can finally watch the classic series in High Def. Although I wonder if it even looks that much better in HD.
