Review: G.I. Joe Tomax & Xamot Comic Pack

Of all the characters I have wanted from the G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary line, Tomax & Xamot, the twin Crimson Guard Commanders, were near the top of my personal wish list. As a collector who came to love G.I. Joe through the cartoon, these twins have always been characters I totally dig. They each finish the other’s sentences , fight Sergeant Slaughter and command some of Cobra’s best troops! Hasbro has finally done Tomax & Xamot justice in the 25th Anniversary line and as a Joe fan, I could not be happier!

All of Hasbro’s fantastic 25th Anniversary comic two-packs are packaged in the same blister card/bubble combo with the figures secured in full view. Those who like to rip their figures from the card will have a very easy time getting to these guys, but the packaging is still sturdy enough to please MOC collectors.

Both Tomax and Xamot share the exact same sculpt, less heads with subtle differences. The sculpts are fantastic, utilizing numerous points of articulation that allow for loads of posing and display opportunities. The figures look great and blend well with the other releases in the 25th Anniversary line.

The sculpts are enhanced by the figures’ detailed paint apps and no discoloration or smudging were present, which makes for a strong presentation. The details of each sculpt are really highlighted by the paint apps, and the figures look perfect. This is indeed a fantastic set!

Both figures include removable sashes and shoulder pads, as well as name-specific bases and identical guns. The detail on the sash/shoulder pads is stunning and the fact that they come in separate pieces – in order to avoid hindering the articulation – is a nifty bonus. The accessories for these figures are essential and really make the characters come alive. I appreciate Hasbro’s choice to make these extras separate pieces, for they do allow for different display opportunities. Fully geared up, both figures truly look ready for battle.

I was very pleased with almost every aspect of this two-pack… less the comic. The issue, #36 ½, “A Day at the Circus”, is better than the other issues included in the comic packs. However, I found the storyline to be fairly lacking. The comic is passable, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it an “added value” to the set.

Despite the small criticism of the comic book, this is one of the best two-packs Hasbro has released for the 25th Anniversary collection and easily worth the $9.99-$14.99 cost. Tomax & Xamot are excellent, memorable villains and their inclusion in the line is essential. Both figures look fantastic, feature great accessories and make for great additions to any G.I. Joe collection. They are some of the most demanded figures in the line, so be sure to get yours as soon as possible!
