The Children’s High Level Group , a British charity co-founded by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, announced today that it is to publish Rowling’s collection of short stories The Tales of Beedle the Bard .

"We are so thrilled to be publishing such an exclusive and special book. This unique project will raise vital funds for the work of CHLG, to help us change the lives of hundreds of thousands of marginalised and institutionalised children who are living in appalling conditions, and make sure that no future generation suffers in this way.”
Emma Nicholson
Co-founder of CHLG

Within the Harry Potter mythology, The Tales of Beedle the Bard is the volume of five wizarding fairy tales which was left to Hermione Granger by Professor Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Only one of the tales, "The Tale of the Three Brothers", is related in the book, making this publication the first time the remaining four stories have been revealed.

Not only written, but also illustrated, by Rowling, the net proceeds of all sales will be donated to Children’s High Level Group. Three editions of the book, all in the English language, will be printed and distributed through Bloomsbury, Scholastic and Amazon. The Bloomsbury and Scholastic editions ($12.99 / £6.99) will include additional commentary on each fairy tale from Professor Dumbledore and feature an introduction by J.K. Rowling. Amazon will be producing a maximum of 100,000 Collector’s Edition copies ($100 / £50). The Collector’s Edition will aim to closely replicate the look and feel of the original seven-copy handwritten version released in 2007. All editions will go on sale Thursday, 4 December 2008 and CHLG anticipates proceeds in the area of $8 million / £4 million.
