2K Games Tease The Darkness II

Based on the Top Cow comic book The Darkness, 2K Games is releasing the sequel to its same-titled hit video game on October 4 and they have kindly provided some screenshots as well as a teaser trailer. Here’s the premise for The Darkness II from the press release:

“It’s been two years since Jackie Estacado, now the Don of the Estacado crime family, used Darkness to kill the men responsible for his girlfriend’s murder. Jackie continues to have haunting visions of his beloved Jenny since her death. He’s tried to cope by bottling up his supernatural power, and now Darkness wants out. A sudden, unprovoked attack on Jackie’s life heralds the start of a full-scale mob war, which has clearly been orchestrated by some outside force. The botched attempt opens the door for Darkness to reemerge, and sets Jackie on a journey to hell and worse, as he unravels the mystery behind the attack and the motivations of Darkness itself.”

Additionally, 2K Games has provided the following additional information regarding gameplay:

The Darkness II is a well of dark and imaginative violence that breaks from the traditional FPS conventions with its uniquely stylized gameplay. The fervid Quad-Wielding ™ gameplay empowers players to slash, grab, and throw objects and enemies using ruthless Demon Arms, while simultaneously firing two weapons. Layered with intricate uses of dark versus light gameplay, the game engulfs players in a whole other level of sophisticated combat. Combined with a complex and twisted storyline, and stylistic violence that is visualized through a hand-painted graphic noir technique, The Darkness II harkens back to its roots of the comic book origins for fans and newcomers alike”

The Darkness II will be available on October 4 for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 and can be pre-ordered by clicking your console’s cover image below.

Top Cow Gets Closer With Image Central

Following up on a banner year in which Image Comics saw its top-selling series THE WALKING DEAD take to the air as a critically acclaimed series on AMC, while simultaneously launching a series of breakout hits like TURF, MORNING GLORIES and SKULLKICKERS, Image is growing its day-to-day publishing operations to include partner studio Top Cow.

As part of the expansion, Image Central will work more directly with Marc Silvestri’s Top Cow Productions and will be handling many key operations. Image Central will work more closely with Top Cow to coordinate production, marketing and sales efforts in much the same way it already does for the other Image partners, including Robert Kirkman, Erik Larsen and Jim Valentino.

Top Cow is no slouch when it comes to hits: With the ongoing success of touchstone series like WITCHBLADE and THE DARKNESS, the success and critical praise garnered by ARTIFACTS, a first-day sellout for new series ECHOES, and over a million votes in this year’s Pilot Season campaign, the inclusion of Top Cow’s properties within Image Central’s purview can only benefit the books, the creators and the company as a whole.

“This is an amazing time for our industry with new opportunities popping up on an almost daily basis,” says Top Cow founder and Image CEO Marc Silvestri. “Between the debut of THE WALKING DEAD show on AMC, SPAWN hitting issue #200 and exciting new titles like MORNING GLORIES and CHEW making a splash in the market, Image has had a fantastic year. We’re all looking forward to working more closely with Eric Stephenson and his crew at Image Central and we’re excited by the opportunities that this will bring to our line.

“In many ways, as we look ahead to the exciting projects coming up, Top Cow is actually getting back to the roots of Image and reinforcing the ideas the company was founded on by strengthening our family ties. This is something that myself and my Image partners have talked about for a long time, and finally seeing it come to fruition is very cool for all of us!”

Top Cow Publisher Filip Sablik adds, “I’ve known Eric Stephenson since I was a publishing liaison at Diamond, and I’m really looking forward to working with him and the entire talented team in Berkeley. For fans, creators and retailers, nothing will really change. We will maintain the same editorial freedom that we always have. If anything, we will have a higher level of support that will make it easier to manage the daily logistics of producing comics, while maintaining our focus on quality story-telling and art.”

“I’ve been supportive of a closer relationship between Image Central and Top Cow since I first took over as PR & Marketing Coordinator way back in 2001,” notes Image Publisher Eric Stephenson. “Matt Hawkins and I worked together at Extreme Studios and then Awesome Entertainment, and I’ve worked with Filip since his Diamond days, and I think the time is right for us to capitalize on those relationships in a way that will strengthen both Image and Top Cow.”

The expansion of Image Central’s publishing operations to include Top Cow marks an exciting new era for Image Comics. The closer partnership between the houses guarantees that Image will continue its winning streak as the premier publisher of creator-owned comics.

Top Cow Productions, Inc. is proud and excited to announce DETECTIVE COMICS and BERSERKER artist Jeremy Haun has signed an exclusive contract with the publisher.

“I couldn’t be more excited about exclusively joining Top Cow,” said Haun. “They’ve been wonderful to me. After ALIBI and BERSERKER, for them, I’d been hoping for the chance to work with Filip Sablik and Top Cow again.”

Top Cow Publisher Filip Sablik expressed, “This is one of those rare, fortunate incidents where the stars align. Jeremy and I have been friends for years and working together has always been a blast. When I brought up the possibility of having Jeremy work for Top Cow exclusively, Marc Silvestri, Matt Hawkins and I all immediately thought he would make an ideal regular artist for The Darkness. I’m incredibly excited to see what Jeremy will do at the Cow, he’s at the ideal point in his career to make a move like this and I believe everyone is going to be blown away by what he does in the next two years!”

Haun will team up with writer Phil Hester as the series artist for THE DARKNESS, beginning with issue 96.

“Drawing THE DARKNESS with Phil is a real honor. He’s done amazing things with the character. I’m hella excited to come in and put my stamp on the look and feel of the book.”

In addition to his DARKNESS run, Haun will also bring life to some new original properties to Top Cow where he will take on double duty with roles as writer and artist.

“We’ve got a lot of big things planned. It’s going to be a great time!” added Haun.
