It appears that Sylvester Stallone is certainly swinging for the fences with his latest project, The Expendables. The writer/director/star has already recruited a bevy of action heroes to play roles in the film, which centers around a covert group of mercenaries who attempt to take out a South American dictator. Currently on board the project are Jet Li, Jason Statham, Randy Couture and Dolph Lungdren (!!), with rumors of Ben Kinglsey and Forest Whitaker showing interest as well. Adding to this amazing cast comes today’s announcement that Mickey Rourke will be playing an “unscrupulous arms dealer” in the film and well… I kinda feel sorry for that South American dictator. We’ll keep a close eye on The Expendables and report back with any additional casting announcements, set reports or photos from what is definitely the most testosterone-filled action flick on the horizon!

Jimmy Hayward, whose previous work includes directing Horton Hears a Who, has been tapped to head up the live-action production of Jonah Hex, according to Hollywood Reporter. Hayward replaces directing duo Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, who opted to part ways from the film in November due to ‘creative differences’. This will be Hayward’s first turn as a live-action director, as his prior movie work has been as an animator for a number of Pixar films and the Canadian television series Reboot.
Jonah Hex will be a Western film based on the DC Comics character by the same name and starring Josh Brolin. In the DC series, Hex (created by writer John Albano and artist Tony DeZuniga) is an anti-hero, a disfigured gun-for-hire whose gruff talk and somewhat-secretive past keeps him fighting to save his hide.
Warner Brothers is hoping to start production on Jonah Hex this spring.
The new trailer for Terminator Salvation is making its way around the interwebs today, three days before it is slated to appear in theaters in front of The Day the Earth Stood Still. This trailer certainly echoes the ‘war movie’ feel that director McG has stated he was aiming for and sets the film up to be the most intense of the series.
