All Hail KING! From Blacklist Studios

What do you do if you’re an ex-Mexican wrestler Elvis impersonator who’s glory days are behind him? Why, you’d take up defending the world from the horrific monsters that seek to invade from beyond, naturally. At least that’s the case for the star of Blacklist Studios’ KING! comic book. To be perfectly honest, King would be happy to just be left alone to sleep all day and consume the regular peanut butter banana burrito with bacon and extra cheese at the local Blubber Tubber Burger, but money seems to usually persuade him to take on the slimy uglies that venture forth onto the Earth. Brought to you by the same folks that are responsible for one of our favorite comics from last year, Robot 13, KING! brings the same sensibilities as the other series – namely the right mix of fun, action and humor. Basically, writer Thomas Hall and artist Daniel Bradford bring to this book everything that makes comic books worth reading over and over again. If your Blacklist Studio comics stay bagged, boarded and in mint condition then you’re doing it wrong. Read, laugh, enjoy, rinse, repeat and share. In fact, pick up multiple copies of KING! to hand out to your friends and family. Give copies to your enemies and they’ll soon become your friends.

Hall’s dialogue is straightforward and concise while also bordering on the sublime. More importantly, he gives you an issue’s worth of story in 24 pages that would take other comic luminaries six issues to tell. That and a four page backup in the first issue more than make this title worthy of your hard-earned cash. Bradford’s art is the love child of Jack Kirby and Keith Giffen, yet original enough to make even the hardened comic book cynic grin like a kid. And Bradford is very adept at actually conveying the story without given you page after page of pinups and poses. Great stuff here and I highly recommend you run out to your local comic book store and pick up both issues of KING! right now or click the images below and buy them right from Blacklist. It’s all rock, roll, burritos and monsters, baby!
