Joaquin Phoenix’s Return To The Late Show with David Letterman

Wednesday, September 22nd, Joaquin Phoenix made his first appearance on David Letterman’s show since his infamous 2009 train wreck of an interview. Now we know the actor was playing a character and not imploding in front of our eyes. Seen through the lens of 20-20 hindsight and the knowledge of what Casey Affleck and Phoenix intended with I’m Still Here, I think what they pulled off is artistically brilliant. Frankly, in the age of the Internet’s half-second news cycle and complete celebrity transparency, I am amazed that they were able to pull off this elaborate facade for nearly two years. I’m also very glad the whole thing was fiction and we weren’t witnessing Phoenix’s public self-destruction. Anyway, here’s the highlights of Phoenix’s return to normalcy.
