“Time Will Tell”
Syfy’s number-one series is back to with its season-two premiere as MacPherson steals something important from the warehouse’s bronze sector, a car accident puts Mrs. Frederic in the hospital, and Pete and Myka head to London on the trail of MacPherson in “Time Will Tell.”
Season one left off with McPherson having the upper hand, seemingly at the expense of Artie’s life, and Claudia was revealed as a traitor and fled, except that it was really Leena who had betrayed the team and she was still around. The season two premiere picks up literally seconds after the end of last year’s finale with Myka and Pete searching for any sign that Artie might have survived. That gets answered pre-credits, thankfully, and in a very Warehouse 13 kind of way, but it also results in Mrs. Frederic having a car accident and winding up in the hospital. You can’t keep good agents down for long, though, whether they be of the Secret Service variety or shadowy government overlords. Myka and Pete take off after McPherson while Artie (seriously, Saul Rubinek is listed in the main cast so you knew he’d survive, right?) goes after Claudia. That just leaves Mrs. Frederic to deal with Leena, and she does so in a surprisingly violent way. But this show is always full of surprises and stories going in very unexpected directions and this premiere is no exception. Along the way we get a very interesting new antagonist that just may be the coolest twist ever and we are also introduced to one of the most elaborately bizarre safety deposit boxes ever, the Escher Vault.
I’m being intentionally coy with this review as it would be really wrong of me to ruin the twists and turns and not let you see them for yourself. Let’s just say that “Time Will Tell” is Warehouse 13 at its very finest, which for an already superb show is raising the bar to atmospheric heights. Eddie McClintock, Joanne Kelly, Saul Rubinek, Allison Scagliotti, Genelle Williams, C.C.H. Pounder and Roger Rees are so much on their game that the performances pop at every turn. This is truly not a show for the lazy, so you will want this episode to have your full attention to catch all the great dialogue between the characters. Guest-star Jaime Murray (Hustle) is amazingly cool and playful and you will get a kick out of her character.
Whether you are just tuning in for the first time or you are an ardent Warehouse 13 fan (and this show will quickly make you a fan), the second season premiere will seem to go by way too quickly and leave you chomping at the bit for next week’s episode. Mystery loves company and you’ll happily join.
