“Damn, those alien bastards gonna pay for shooting up my ride,” Duke growled and those alien bastards did pay. They paid over and over again. In fact, every time I receive credible news that Duke Nukem Forever might actually be a reality I dig out that ancient CD and install the game all over again.
For many of us, Duke Nukem isn’t just a game, it was a personal right of passage. I can remember editing my autoexec.bat files to tweak the memory on my old 486 to even run the game (if you have to ask what I am talking about, you probably aren’t old enough to have played the game back then). In my opinion, Duke 3d was the first breathtakingly cool game. When word came out, some ten years ago that Duke was indeed going to come get some more, I, like many, could not contain myself. Considering the advancements in technology since Duke 3D (not to mention considerably expanded pool of potential Bruce Campbell lines to lift), I couldn’t wait to see what 3d Realms was going to bless us with.
“And yes, we know the game has taken a long time. There’s no possible joke you could make about the game’s development time that we haven’t already heard.”
– 3D Realms
Let’s not get into the years of agonizing pain that followed. Let’s just sum it up with saying that Duke Nukem Forever is perhaps one of the most hotly anticipated games of all time, while at the same time it is perhaps the most ridiculed games of all time.
But, maybe, just maybe, there is light at the end of the tunnel. The Jace Hall Show has gone directly to the source, George Broussard and Scott Miller of 3D Realms, and obtained actual video evidence that there is a playable Duke Nukem Forever game.
See for yourself. Below are two screen caps from the video that follows (please note that the 3d Realms interview happens roughly halfway through the video).
