In addition to star David Tennant, multiple Emmy Award nominee Jeffrey Tambor and Abigail Spencer, NBC has announced that Emmy winning comedienne Jane Curtin and Heroes veteran Sendhil Ramamurthy are joining the pilot for Rex Is Not Your Lawyer. Ramamurthy plays a friend and fellow lawyer to Tennant’s Rex who also falls in love with his pal’s fiance (Spencer). Further complicating Rex’s life is his mother (Curtin) who falls in love with her son’s shrink (Tambor). Considering that Ramamurthy’s Heroes character, Mohinder Suresh, has been barely used this season, the actor has obviously been scouting out new gigs. It will be interesting to see him in a more comedic role. Jane Curtin is a comedy genius and I greatly relish seeing her play off of the equally terrific Tambor.
These new casting additions solidify an already great cast and only serve to heighten the anticipation for the pilot. I hope all goes well and this show ends up on NBC’s Fall 2010 schedule. David Semel is directing the pilot from a script by Andrew Leeds and David Lampson. Showrunner Barry Schindel, Semel, Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein are exec producing, with Leeds and Lampson serving as supervising producers.
