SDCC 2009 COVERAGE SPONSORED BY

Stargate Universe doesn’t premiere until October 2nd, but that did not stop Syfy and MGM from giving the show a big presence at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. There was a great panel on Friday morning and Pop Culture Zoo was in the press room afterwards to talk with all the cast that was present. Look for that article in a few days, first let’s talk premiere party.
Thursday night, July 23rd, MGM and Syfy teamed up to throw a lavish launch party for the upcoming new series Stargate Universe in San Diego. Seven actors from the series, David Blue, Ming-Na, Jamil Walker Smith, Elyse Levesque, Alaina Huffman, Brian J. Smith and Robert Carlyle as well as series creators Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper. My guest for the evening was Brandon Jerwa, the man responsible for the upcoming Stargate SG-1 Season Eleven comic book series. Brandon was able to talk to Wright and Cooper, both of whom were delighted to know their first series was in capable hands and offered their support. Throughout the night other luminaries drifted in and out of the party, most notably Kevin Sorbo.
The studio and the network really went all out for this shindig providing lots of tasty food laid out on ice-sculpted bars, plenty of drinks flowing freely and both the SG-U logo (projected on a hotel across the street) and the Stargate itself (projected into a shallow pool). The main event, of course, was the unveiling of the new, extended teaser trailer for the series, which can be viewed here. The trailer engendered an extremely favorable response from the gathered crowd and certainly did its job to heighten anticipation for the show. In all, it was a wonderful night and a terrific way to celebrate the new show, the first day of the con and a great way to relax before a very packed Friday and Saturday. Thank you to Syfy, MGM and the cast and crew of Stargate Universe for a great party.
