Wendy & Lisa – ‘White Flags Of Winter Chimneys’ Reviewed

album
The latest album from Wendy & Lisa, White Flags Of Winter Chimneys needs to be part of your record collection. It’s been said before that writing about music is like dancing about architecture. How do you describe music that slowly wraps itself around you like a favorite, comfy blanket, stops time and takes you to a dreamy, ethereal state of mind within the first verse? It’s not that easy. But maybe true music doesn’t require any sort of deep thinking or tedious dissection. I may not be qualified to speak to that, but here’s what I do know: Simply put, this is a gorgeous collection of songs. The music on each track reminds you exactly why the duo have done so well composing scores for films and television shows; their music subtly leads you down a beautifully melodic path. Guitar and piano playfully engage you and Wendy’s voice is like a warm summer day and you can’t help but smile listening to her sing. “Balloon,” “You And I, ” “Salt And Cherries” and “Sweet Suite (Beginning At The End)” are the stand-out tracks, but that’s not to say the other songs are any less attention worthy. Indeed, any of these tunes are finer than anything you’re likely to hear on mainstream radio. The lyrics give concise snapshots of moments or frankly raw emotions. The context may not always be clear, but the meaning and emotion is readily evident and refreshingly honest. If you like music of substance as well as sound, this album is for you.

Give the entire album a listen right here or, better yet, just go buy it already! If you don’t like this album you don’t like music.
