When last we left the eighth Doctor and Lucie Miller, Morbius had been defeated, but at a terrible cost. With the Doctor seemingly dead, Lucie was left to return home and pick up the pieces of her shattered life. I don’t suppose it’s any big spoiler to just go ahead and tell you the Doctor survived, right? I mean, it can’t very well be an entire season of eighth Doctor adventures without the eighth Doctor, however I wouldn’t put it past Big Finish to try something like that at some point. That doesn’t happen here, but as with all their audios, where the Doctor has ended up and what he’s been doing since adds up to something fairly significant for the character. This is a very different eighth Doctor that we and Lucie, eventually, are reunited with. Both Paul McGann and Sheridan Smith do an incredible job with their performances here. It’s really easy to take them for granted as they knock it out of the park every time, but this story in particular seems them really raise their game. If only we got seem them on the TV. The story is an interesting, if ultimately tragic and I’m very intrigued by where the pair go from here. We even get some interesting developments from the Headhunter. So far, so good with the new eighth Doctor season.
