Not only is William Katt making his first appearance in Seattle at this month’s Jet City Comic Show, but he also wants to hear you sing the theme song to his TV series The Greatest American Hero! Sing away on a wing and a prayer and you might win. Here are all the details from today’s press release and I’ll see you at the Jet City Comic Show on September 24 at Seattle Center Exhibition Hall on Mercer Street in Seattle, WA!

Believe it or not, The Greatest American Hero touches down in Seattle to judge karaoke contest!!!
The 2nd Annual Jet City Comic Show in Seattle, in cooperation with AFK Tavern in Everett, presents the “Believe It Or Not: The Greatest American Karaoke Contest” with special guest William Katt on Friday, September 23rd at 7:00pm.
The Greatest American Hero, which ran for three seasons on ABC back in the early 80s, is known not only for it’s regular school teacher “Ralph Hinkley” (played by actor William Katt) turned high-flying superhero in red tights and black cape but it’s enduring and popular theme song “Believe It Or Not (I’m Walking On Air)” by Joey Scarbury, which soared to the #2 position on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1981.
Actor William Katt makes a rare public appearance, and his first ever to Seattle, to be part of the fun! While Katt is perhaps best known for his role at the title character in The Greatest American Hero, other work includes the role of blonde heartthrob “Tommy Ross” in Brian DePalma’s classic 1976 horror film Carrie, as well as Perry Mason, broadway roles on productions such as Pippin, and most recently a small role in Rainn Wilson’s comedy film Super.
For this very special one of a kind competition, the only song that contestants will perform is the popular theme song to The Greatest American Hero, “Believe It Or Not (I’m Walking On Air).” Contestants will be judged by none other than William Katt himself and will be graded based on both vocals as well as presentation. Katt will select a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winner.
The prizes are as follows:
1st place – A photo with William Katt, an autographed photo from William Katt, a pair of weekend passes to Emerald City Comicon on March 30-April 1, a set of Jet City Comic Show exclusive comic art prints
2nd place – A photo with William Katt and a pair of day passes to Emerald City Comicon.
3rd place – A photo with William Katt.
There is no cover charge to attend the contest, however those actually wishing to compete in the karaoke contest itself must have a ticket to Jet City Comic Show. They are available for pre-purchase by visiting www.jetcitycomicshow.com and will also be available at AFK Tavern the evening of the contest and include a free “Bomber Girl” print by artist Matthew Clark. Sign-up time for competition begins at 7pm, with the contest itself beginning at 7:30pm. Only 20 contestant slots will be available so arriving early to sign-up is recommended. Please note that Willam Katt will not be signing autographs, posing for pictures, or meeting with the fans (with the exception of the three karaoke contest winners) at AFK Tavern, but rather at Jet City Comic Show the next day.
William Katt will be making his first Northwest appearance when he attends the Jet City Comic Show at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall on Saturday, September 24th, from 10am to 6pm. In addition to several popular comic artists, vendors, gaming and autograph sessions, Katt will be participating in an audience Q&A, co-moderated by Joe Parrington, PR Director of Emerald City Comicon, and Joseph Dilworth, Editior-In-Chief of Pop Culture Zoo.
To kick off the Jet City Comic Show festivities, there will be two special events the day before the show: a pre-show “Drink & Draw” at Seattle”s The Rendezvous and “Believe It Or Not: The Greatest American Karaoke Contest” with special guest William Katt at Everett’s AFK Tavern. Both events begin at 7pm.
Now in it’s second year, Jet City Comic Show started in order to fill in the void for a quality one-day show for fans and dealers. A show that will be fun and entertaining for the fans, where they will have time to browse all the dealer tables or visit with their favorite creators. It is co-promoted by Brian Meredith, co-owner of Emerald City Comicon and The Comic Stop, and James Taylor, owner of Seattle area comic book publisher Rorschach Entertainment.
