“RED MOON” Airs Thursday, November 18 at 10:00 PM on CBS
Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) accepts the help of a local astrologer, Ellis Mars (guest-star John Billingsley), to solve the puzzling case of a triple homicide that involves two policemen and the fiancé of an EMT worker.
This appears to be a run-of-the-mill episode on the surface, but there are a few things going on concerning Patrick Jane and his mentality concerning Red John. Yet again we have a conversation between Jane and Lisbon where he explicitly states his intent to kill the villain and she talks about she will not let Jane do that. I can’t help but think that these conversations keep coming up because the long-awaited confrontation with Jane’s nemesis isn’t far off. I would really be happy if the big confrontation happens sooner rather than later. I’m interested to see a Patrick Jane on the other side of that confrontation, no matter what the outcome is and I don’t think it needs to signal the end of the series.
The other cool thing about this episode is we get a mini Star Trek: Enterprise reunion as both John Billingsley and Connor Trinneer guest-star and even have a scene or two together. All the regulars put in their usual superb jobs and there is even a nice self-referential moment when Cho admonishes a suspect not to run. Poor Cho has done enough foot chases this year that he deserves the break he gets. All in all, another superb episode and further proof that this is one of the best shows on TV.
