As revealed today in the DC Comics Solicitations for October, there is a JSA 80-Page Giant shipping just in tie for Halloween. The Justice Society is probably my favorite super-team, so I consider it a real treat to get extra JSA stories that month. One of the tales in the massive anthology features the character of Doctor Fate and the man who is writing it is one of my favorite writers, Brandon Jerwa, so double the win! Earlier today we sent off an email to the writer to get a few words from him about this latest assignment. Take it away Brandon!
“When Rachel Gluckstern approached me about the JSA 80-Page Giant and said I could “pick my character”, I literally got a chill. I very cautiously asked about Doctor Fate, and he was available! I was absolutely thrilled, because Fate is literally one of my Top Five Favorite DC Characters of all time. And while the Doctor has undergone a few identity changes over the years, the current iteration is a Nelson, tying right back to the original version of the character. Bonus.
Of course, I’d just lose my mind if this led to more Doctor Fate stories for me, but it’s a genuine personal accomplishment for me to be able to work with this character that I love so much after only being at DC for a relatively short time. I really couldn’t be happier.
And yes, I realize I’m talking about a 10-page anthology story like it’s “The Dark Knight Returns”, but that’s really how excited I am about it!”
