Harleys And Hobbits

RON PERLMAN, SONS OF ANARCHY AND THE HOBBIT MOVIE

Just a quick note for those LORD OF THE RINGS/HOBBIT fans. During a set visit to the FX show SONS OF ANARCHY, Ron Perlman (Clay Morrow, head honcho of the motorcycle gang) was asked if there was any truth to the rumor that he would be in the upcoming movie, THE HOBBIT. Even the formable IMDB (The Internet Movie Database) has him listed. All of which makes sense, since the movie is being written and directed by his good friend, Guillermo del Toro, who he did the very successful HELLBOY franchise with.

Perlman was curious and rather amused about the job speculation. “I haven’t talked very much to Guillermo,” he said. “I saw him very briefly [when] I did the audio for THE STRAIN, which was the novel he put out. I don’t even know if he liked it. He’s so busy writing these two Hobbit movies that he is going to film back to back that he’s really been very hard to communicate with. And I’ve been a little bit busy myself, so…

“If that is able to happen, that would be nice. Because a day on the set with Guillermo del Toro is a state of grace. With Guillermo its four movies now and there is a real phenomenal shorthand [between us].

“We get along really good and I love working with him. I love his imagination. The hearts of the characters that he has given me to do are wonderful parts to aspire to.”

Some casting for THE HOBBIT has already been announced. Ian McKellen will return as Gandalf with Andy Serkis as Gollum and Hugo Weaving as Lord Elrond.

Filming in New Zealand won’t start until March, 2010 and with a proposed 370 day shooting schedule it wouldn’t be too hard to work around more episodes of the SONS OF ANARCHY. SOA has become a perverse pleasure to watch and thankfully the second season starts Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 10 p.m. on the FX Chanel. Check it out. You’ll either love it or hate it.

Now what character would Ron Perlman play? Any ideas.

[Editor’s Note: Anne’s full interview with Ron Perlman will be up later today!]
