[UPDATE 10/21] No More Cloverfield for Hasbro?

UPDATE 10/21
We just received this official update from Hasbro. Not much additional information, other than their confirmation that this figure WILL be made and has NOT been canceled. Hooray for communication!

The Cloverfield Monster figure from Hasbro has not been canceled and is still available. Due to high demand, the Cloverfield Monster figure pre-ordered by many fans required a delay in some shipments and fans might have received one or two emails from Hasbro Toy Shop about the issue. Hasbro apologizes for any inconvenience fans who pre-ordered the figure may have encountered. If fans have any questions regarding their order or would like to change their order, they can call Hasbro Toy Shop’s Customer Service Center at 1-800-408-0052 or email at CustomerService@HasbroToyShop.com.

Well, while we are still awaiting official confirmation from Hasbro, it appears that Cloverfield fans may be able to sigh a collective breath of relief with this latest email from Hasbro Toy Shop…

You were incorrectly sent an email recently stating that your order #30053523 for the Cloverfield figure was canceled.
The email should have notified you that, due to a production delay, the anticipated arrival date for this item is December 13, 2008.

Odd that the figure was listed as discontinued (and not delayed) when I contacted Hasbro’s customer service line last week. We’re still trying to get an official statement from Hasbro on the ultimate fate of their massive Cloverfield figure, but for now it appears that the beast is back on the production line.

ORIGINAL STORY 10/15

It appears that Hasbro may have pulled the plug on what was shaping up to be one of their coolest looking releases for this Fall. Earlier this year at Toy Fair International in New York, Hasbro unveiled their plans to release a 14″ version of the monster from the movie Cloverfield. This figure included some amazing detail, killer accessories (which included an alternate head and a handful of parasite creatures) and a whopping 70 points of articulation. The figure was again showcased in July at San Diego Comic Con, where Hasbro beckoned fans to pre-order the behemoth online.

Sadly, today this email from Hasbro Toy Shop came through my inbox…

What?!?! So, judging from this notification, the figure is now listed as a ‘Discontinued Item’. It appears to still be listed on HasbroToyShop.com for pre-order, with a release date of 12/15. A call to the Hasbro Toy Shop customer service number confirmed that the item is indeed listed (at least in their database) as discontinued. We’re still digging into this to determine why the item has been canceled, though poor pre-order numbers would most likely have been the culprit.
