The Hollywood Reporter is reporting today that the Marvel Comics series Runaways is being developed for a film adaptation by Marvel Studios. The creator of the series, Brian K. Vaughan is currently writing the script and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will be the producer. Although the studio just announced its next four films (Iron Man 2, Captain America, Thor and Avengers) through 2011, this still has the possibility of getting done as a side project. Unlike the Marvel heroes appearing in the current and upcoming films, the Runaways features a relatively new group of teenage characters not necessarily needing to be tied down to Marvel continuity. The individual characters’ ties to the greater Marvel Universe, while interesting and fun, could be largely ignored and there could still be a fantastic film. Vaughan, having co-created the characters in 2002, is just the writer who could pull it off, too. We’ll let you know more as we hear it and you can read what little is currently know in the original Hollywood Reporter story here.
