Scifi.com is reporting that NBC announced today that the Heroes spinoff series Heroes: Origins has been officially pulled from their production schedule. Origins, originally planned as a series of single-episode ‘cautinary tales’ featuring previously unintroduced characters within the Heroes universe, has been in a state of flux ever since the Writers Guild strike earlier this year.
Ben Silverman, co-chairman of NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios, explained that it was simply a matter of not having enough creative resources for the project. “We were taxing our creative team to do too much around that. We wanted 35 Heroes [episodes] and 12 Heroes: Origins, each of which was supposed to be a mini-movie and backdoor pilot. We reached far and challenged our people, and we decided it was better to focus on keeping the Heroes mothership as strong as possible.”
The new season of Heroes is scheduled to return to NBC on September 15.
