Disney and Pixar announced in New York yesterday that all new Pixar films would soon be released in 3D, along with the standard 2D format. The move is slated to take place with the release of Pixar’s Up, which will hit theaters in May of 2009. This announcement was in conjunction with Disney’s release of their upcoming animated films over the next few years.
Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter expressed his delight with Pixar’s inclusion of the 3D format, saying that “”I love 3D. I made a 3D computer-animated short in 1989 called ‘Nickname,’ and in fact my wedding pictures with my beautiful wife Nancy were made in 3D.”
Disney’s announcement of their upcoming animated theatrical releases included the following…
Bolt – November, 2008
Up (Pixar) – May, 2009
The Princess and the Frog – December, 2009
Toy Story 3 (Pixar) – June, 2010
Rapunzel – December, 2010
Newt – Summer, 2011
The Bear and the Bow (Pixar) – December, 2011
Cars 2 (Pixar) – Summer, 2012
King of the Elves – December, 2012
