Kevin Smith’s Red State Is Done And Dusted

Amazingly, Kevin Smith’s newest flick, Red State, after finishing a 25 day production schedule on Wednesday the 27th, had it’s first screening of the completed cut at the film’s wrap party on Saturday the 30th. Yes, Smith has delivered a finished cut of his film, complete with end credits, a mere three days after having finished filming it. That is pretty amazing, but possibly not too surprising considering that Smith has been editing the film as he filmed it. Smith has directed nine feature length films prior to this, eight of which he has also written and seven of those he also had starring roles in, so he certainly knows what he’s doing by now and has presumably refined his method down considerably. In addition to putting the film to bed, there is also a low-fi, rather scary poster for Red State that Smith released on his blog on Halloween, appropriately enough. This is the filmmaker’s first foray into the horror genre and I am really excited to see what he has come up with. I am a huge fan of the View Askewniverse films, but I thought Kevin Smith really came into his own when he stepped outside all comfortable boundaries with Jersey Girl. Jersey Girl was criminally underrated and Smith proved himself an exceptional writer and director with that flick. So, yeah, bring on Red State, hopefully sooner rather than later.
