‘Doctor Horrible’ Heading to DVD

One of the few good things to come out of the Writers Guild of America strike (2007-2008) would have to be Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog The brain child of Joss Whedon, the man behind Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the wonderfully campy story revolves around the exploits of the wanna-be super villain Dr Horrible. Played by Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), Dr. Horrible dreams of being accepted into the Evil League of Evil and to do so he must prove himself by way of preforming a deed dastardly enough to empress Bad Horse, who “rules the League with an iron hoof.” Only one thing stands in his way, his nemesis Captain Hammer, Nathan Fillion (Serenity) and his penchant for pounding Dr. Horrible, er… horribly.

Like any good super-villian, Dr. Horrible is bent on world domination, but he has a softer side too. While he has the audacity to engage in a litany of criminal enterprises, he still has trouble summoning the courage to speak to the girl of he pines for, Penny, played by Felicia Day (The Guild). Little does Dr. Horrible know that his personal life and his career choices won’t stay seperate for long.

Joss Whedon

Priced at US $9.99, those outside North America will he happy to know that this is a region free DVD. All fans will be happy to know that beyond the feature, the DVD will be sporting a number of extras as well. Headlining the extras is “Commentary! The Musical.” About which, Joss stated, “it has nearly twice as much music as Dr. Horrible itself — since you can’t really talk that much during a commentary musical or it sounds like a regular commentary.” Other extras include a commentary by the cast and crew, Evil League of Evil application videos and making-of featurettes.
