More As This Story Develops, the new TV project from Aaron Sorkin, has been picked up by HBO for a ten episode first season, according to the network. The series centers on a cable news anchor (Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), his newsroom staff (Alison Pill, John Gallagher, Jr., Olivia Munn, Dev Patel, Thomas Sadoski) and their boss (Sam Waterston). Together they set out on a patriotic and quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal entanglements. This marks Sorkin’s first TV series since Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip went off the air in 2007, and it’s a very welcome return. I’m very interested to see how his episodic writing flourishes on HBO without the constraints of a commercial television network. The pilot for More As This Story Develops was written by Sorkin and directed by Greg Mottola. The cast features Jeff Daniels as Will McAllister, Emily Mortimer as MacKenzie, Alison Pill as Maggie, John Gallagher, Jr. as Jim, Olivia Munn as Sloan, Dev Patel as Neal, Thomas Sadoski as Don and Sam Waterston as Charlie. Any bets on whether or not Joshua Malina shows up in the first ten episodes?
