“PAX ROMANA” Airs Friday, April 15 at 10:00 PM on Syfy
At the end of the mid-season finale, Magnus, Will, Henry and Kate had finally found their way into the city within the Earth and had made contact with the folks who run the city there. Unfortunately for our heroes, visitors fro mthe outside are summarily put to do, which is how things ended. Obviously, the show is not only back for the remaining ten episodes of the season, but has also been renewed for a fourth season, so it shouldn’t be too big of a spoiler to reveal that all four are alive and well as the season resumes. Of course the whys and wherefores of this miraculous resurrection are the issue here as well as what it means for the technological level of the city beneath the surface. The rest of the episode deals with Adam Worth’s betrayal of the team in general and Druitt in particular. And for anyone wondering whether or not Druitt has returned to being a bad ass, there is a bit towards the end that unequivocally answers that question in a moderately disturbing way.
There is also the matter of the sort of god-level abnormals, like Big Bertha/Kali, and that gets addressed a bit further as does the whereabouts of Helen Magnus’s Father. Jim Byrnes makes a guest-appearance in this episode, so take from that what you will. This episode is written by series creator Damian Kindler and directed by co-executive producer Martin Wood and it is obvious how well they know these characters and the ever-expanding world they inhabit. The dialogue this year has been particularly sharp and fluid between the characters. The great stories coupled with the amazing acting by series regulars Amanda Tapping, Robin Dunne, Ryan Robbins, Agam Darshi and Christopher Heyerdahl makes for one of the most entertaining, imaginative and engaging hours of television being currently broadcast. All in all, this is a great episode and a fine return for Sanctuary.
